Spring 2025, a New Magazine for ACN Canada

Montreal, April 2, 2025 – Hope, the theme of Jubilee 2025, is at the heart of Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) Canada’s new Spring 2025 Magazine, available on the national branch’s website at: https://acn-canada.org/magazine/. (Cover photo: a young seminarian from Lebanon).
“At present, the reasons to hope are scarce for many people,” says Marie-Claude Lalonde, national director of ACN Canada. “And yet, among our project partners, hope is a virtue held high, even in situations of conflict or war.”
In this issue, readers can learn more about the situations in four countries: Nigeria, Mozambique, Lebanon, and Pakistan. “In each of these countries, the situation for Christians can be extremely difficult, because—depending on the region—discrimination and persecution are real issues for these believers. But the hope and resilience they exhibit are sources of inspiration that we wanted to put forward and share,” declares Ms. Lalonde.
The short stories featured in the publication show not only the courage of Christians in vulnerable situations, but also their ability, as a Church, to actively and confidently respond to Christ’s constant call to serve. In spite of everything, these Christian communities continue to serve the poor, the sick, and those who suffer from war and conflict. “We present the case of religious men and women from Nigeria who undertake special training in Kenya to help themselves and others heal from trauma,” says Lalonde. “Indeed, kidnappings, constant conflict, and lack of security can become very difficult to live with. Some members of the Church—religious men and women, priests, catechists, committed lay people—need downtime to recover psychologically. ACN is increasingly responding to such needs, because how else could Church members continue to serve with the dedication they are known for?” concludes the national director.
