Montreal, October 17, 2025 — Save the date! The 2025 edition of Red Wednesday in Canada will be held on Wednesday, November 19, under the theme “You are the voice of persecuted Christians.”
Red Wednesday is an international initiative led by Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) that aims to raise public awareness of the situation of persecuted Christians around the world. On that day, prayer vigils, Masses, testimonies, and symbolic actions—such as illuminating churches in red or wearing red clothing—will be organized in several countries.
In Canada, the date chosen for this awareness campaign is the third Wednesday in November, meaning that this year’s event will be held on November 19. “In addition, for those who are unable to hold an event on that specific day, we suggest doing so during Red Week, from November 16 to 23,” explains Marie-Claude Lalonde, National Director of ACN Canada. “And why not earlier or later in the month? The important thing is to participate and show our solidarity.”
“This year, the release of the 2025 Religious Freedom in the World Report (October 21, 2025) gives us even more reason to reflect on the issue of religious freedom,” she says. “It is not only inherent to Christians, but also to all those who profess a belief or conviction. In accordance with Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we invite everyone to pray more widely for the victims of violence against the freedom of religion, thought, and conscience,” says Ms. Lalonde.

More than a dozen activities already confirmed
In Canada, activities have already been confirmed in more than a dozen locations. “I invite people to register their participation on the homepage: https://acn-canada.org/rw. This year, we are using artificial intelligence to facilitate this,” says Valérie Vulcain, event coordinator. “It’s incredibly easy, so sign up now!” she says enthusiastically.
Confirmed activities include Masses at the cathedrals in Montreal and Toronto and an evening of prayer at the cathedral in Gatineau; Masses at Corpus Christi Parish in Calgary, Our Lady, Queen of Families Parish in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Notre-Dame-du-Royaume Parish in Saguenay. There will also be a Mass at Saint Joseph’s Oratory in Montreal in the afternoon, in addition to the dome being lit in red for the fourth consecutive year.
