On this Wednesday, January 24th, the Haitian Bishops’ Conference and the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince have released an appeal for priests, religious and the laity to organize a chain of unceasing prayer, adoration and Eucharistic celebrations in their parishes and communities “for the release of those kidnapped and their return to their families”on Wednesday, January 24. The bishops further appealed for the release of the six religious sisters and their two companions without any conditions and for the kidnappers to stop “trampling on the inalienable dignity of God’s children”. The bishops also called on the government to do more to protect the country’s citizens. In particular, the bishops focused on the frequent kidnappings, which scourge the Caribbean country, stating: “It is time to take the necessary measures to eradicate the causes of kidnapping, the violence of armed groups which are plunging the country into an increasingly confused and chaotic situation.”
