Aid to the Church in Need Canada (ACN) is in the midst of a campaign for the persecuted Church in Nigeria and is encouraging people to donate generously. “On Holy Saturday, April 8, more than 35 people (with some media outlets reporting close to 50) were killed in a camp for Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in the Diocese of Makurdi,” said Marie-Claude Lalonde, national director of ACN.

“This massacre against defenseless people who have already lost everything is indeed discouraging, but it is also another opportunity to remind the world that Nigerian Christians need our support more than ever,” continued Lalonde. “Our projects offer hope for the future not only for the Catholics themselves, but for the entire population. We are happy that the Church can contribute to the common good in Africa’s most populated country.”

Examples of projects supported through the Nigeria 2023 campaign include a trauma centre for healing and emergency support for IDPs living in camps.

“I wish to thank all benefactors and supporters in advance for this Church which, in the midst of all She has endured, continues to grow.”
