ACN Success Story – Cameroon

Subsistence support for 28 religious sisters

The Diocese of Kribi lies in the south of Cameroon, on the Gulf of Guinea. It covers an area of over 11,000 km² and roughly half of its 250,000 inhabitants are Catholic.

There are 28 religious sisters in the diocese from eight different congregations caring for those in need, especially children, young girls, mothers, the sick, and the elderly, as well as the street children and Indigenous forest peoples, formerly known as pygmies, who live in particularly precarious circumstances today. The sisters are also involved in the catechetical work of the parishes and in preparing people for the reception of the sacraments.

The sisters do not receive any remuneration for their tireless and invaluable service, and while they do receive a small level of support from the diocese, the recent pandemic and the general economic crisis in the country have nearly brought the local Church to its knees. And although the sisters’ resources have diminished,  the needs of the people have only grown.

This is the reason why Bishop Damase Zinga Atangana has turned to us for help. Thanks to the generous support of our benefactors, we were able to provide $19,600 to cover the most urgent needs and the cost of health insurance for these 28 religious sisters.

All the sisters of the Diocese of Kribi express their heartfelt gratitude to all of you for your help!
