 A success story in Ukraine

A successful renovation for the Brothers of St. Albert

The Brothers of St Albert want to thank you for your help in renovating their monastery

The Brothers of St. Albert in Zaporyzhya are delighted with their newly renovated house. Thanks to the generosity of our benefactors, we were able to give 43,800 CAD  to renovate the central heating system, install thermal insulation, get rid of condensation on the walls and carry out various other urgent repairs. “Our heartfelt thanks to you,” writes Brother Wieslaw. “Thanks to your help, we have been able to achieve a great deal, and the end of the renovation work is now in sight. “

The original two Polish Brothers of the St Albert community have now been joined by two young postulants. But that’s not all; they do not live alone in their monastery, but also offer shelter to many homeless people.  In all, there is space here to welcome up to 26 homeless men to live with the Brothers who counsel and support them in every way, helping many of them to find and live a normal, independent life. In the winter there are often as many as 40 men who find refuge here. In fact, many of these men also helped actively with the renovations.

“Our heartfelt thanks to you,” writes Brother Wieslaw. “Thanks to your help, we have been able to achieve a great deal, and the end of the renovation work is now in sight.”

The Brothers also run a soup kitchen close to the city cathedral where they provide meals for the poor and needy every day. Many of the poor are old age pensioners who would otherwise be unable to afford a hot meal because of the rapidly soaring prices in the country.

Outside, in front of their house, the Brothers have built a small chapel in honour of Our Lady of Fatima, which is illuminated at night. There is not a single church in the suburb where their monastery is situated, but again and again passers-by stop in front of their little chapel or even kneel on the ground in order to pray. This is a source of particular joy for the Brothers.

Along with them, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all the benefactors who made it possible!
