The Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará need an extension on their house!

The religious congregation of the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará – or Servidoras for short – was founded in Argentina in 1989. It now has more than 1,000 Sisters, working in more than 30 different countries on all five continents.

The ever-growing number of their new vocations undergo their training in no fewer than 26 novice houses around the world. The Sisters devote themselves to pastoral work, giving catechetical and religious instruction, organizing retreat days, helping and counselling young people in their search for a vocation. At the same time, they care for orphans, elderly people and the sick. The Servidoras also have communities working in Ukraine, and for the past four years their provincial house has been located in the city of Ivano-Frankivsk. But the building itself is in need of renovation and must also be adapted to the congregation’s requirements.

Ukraine 3But now, the Sisters have turned to us again, for the building is also used as a retreat centre and not only for the Sisters of the congregation, who come here from all over Ukraine, but also for the laity who visit. It is at the same time a centre for the members of the Third Order of the congregation,a as well as other people who come here to privately retreat and stay as guests at the convent. In addition, it is a place where any religious Sisters who are in need of rest and recuperation or medical care, can come and spend some time.  As a result it needs to have additional rooms added, as well as toilets and showers.

Aid to the Church in Need has already helped with $26,100 for the extension and renovation work to date. Further on, the Sisters would like to extend the mansard attic rooms  so that they may be able to provide suitable accommodations there as well. We have promised an additional $14,500 for their project.
